The Two Sides of Identity: On the addressing of skin colour in the work of Pamela Rosenkranz and Arthur Jafa
Issues currently being stirred up in the global debate on identity politics can also be observed in contemporary artistic strategies. Using selected works by Pamela Rosenkranz und Arthur Jafa, Swiss journalist Mathis Neuhaus attempts to reveal how critical potential can be found on both sides of a realisation about skin colour or race. For Neuhaus, Rosenkranz’s speculative, post-identity materialism on the one hand and Jafa’s identificatory aesthetic on the other both enable the forwarding of a critical, constructive dialogue about that to which we feel we belong.
